A family with a dream of a chateau that would offer romantic escapes from reality and fairy tale weddings:
Darell and Pam Amelang, Marty and Audrey Miller, and Sandy Garcia, (Pam, Marty and Sandy being brother and sisters), all Colorado natives, began the search for the perfect property located somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, for their romantic chateau to be built upon.
Having all worked together for many years in the custom home building business of Hill Country Custom Homes, a Northern Colorado building company, each brought a different talent and source of knowledge to the new business venture.
They began designing the venue as the search for the land continued and proceeded to learn as much as possible about the wedding and lodging business while researching many of the existing Colorado wedding venues.
In 2005, they discovered the perfect piece of land. Fourteen tree covered acres, surrounded by the Rocky Mountain National Park, just above Estes Park. It had the right zoning, all of the necessary utilities and it just happened to come with a very busy campground. After purchasing the land and the existing campground, cabins and motel building, they managed the existing business, updated all of the structures, and proceeded with development approval for Della Terra Mountain Chateau.
In early 2008, the new development was approved and in April of 2008, they were able to pull a building permit. Protection of the beautiful building site was first through out construction. The building was placed on an existing cut out in the side of the mountain, causing only three trees to be removed to construct the building. Parking was created from the existing campsites along the drive up the mountainside, resulting in no trees being removed. The private, sheltered, northwest corner of the property, with the majestic MacGregor Mountain providing a spectacular backdrop, became the outdoor ceremony area. Creeks, ponds, a stone bridge, musicians shelter, hidden gazebo, stage and raised tiered seating were added to create the perfect outdoor ceremony area.
Every effort was made to build green and energy conscious. Solar on the south roof creates energy for the domestic hot water system and radiant floor heat system. Radiant floor heat was chosen for its energy efficiency as a heating system. High efficiency ductless mini-split units provide the air conditioning. LED lighting is located throughout the building, saving thousands of watts of electricity. The equipment throughout the building was chosen for its high efficiency ratings. A combination of Sealection 500 foam insulation and fiberglass blow-in insulation were used to establish high R-values and high sound ratings. The building materials and labor were selected from Northern Colorado sources whenever possible, supporting local economies. Every finish was personally selected to complete the desired vision of romantic old world design. The family takes extreme pride in the earth conscious quality of construction that created Della Terra.
June 1st of 2009, Della Terra Mountain Chateau opened its doors. Family designed, built, managed and operated with pride, the dreamers of Della Terra Mountain Chateau invite you to escape to the romantic world of Della Terra and experience it for yourself.
